Drama department advances 14 out of 15 acts to speech contest

The drama department kicked off the year with Iowa High School Speech Association (IHSSA) speech contest. They are currently practicing for state which is being held Feb.6th in Ankeny.
This is freshman Kristina Ryan’s first time in speech contest.
“I’m really excited to see if I can make it to All-State,” Ryan said.

GSA members attend rally to support gay marriage

On Jan. 12th senior Stephen Boatwright set up and attended a rally for lesbian, gay, transgender, allied (LGBTA) youth regarding the support of same sex marriage at the capitol.

Mock trial prepares for competition

The students in mock trial have a murder case in their hands. The students have to act as attorneys and witnesses. One of the advisors, Sarah hamilton, says that they have been learning the case since the beginning of the year.

Donating to make a difference

Since December is National HIV/AIDS awareness month, the Hoover-meredith Gay-Straight Alliance decided to set up a donation table Tuesday and Thursday during lunch that would raise money for the Aids Project of Central Iowa.
