The best man for the job

With the Republican nomination process seemingly coming to close with Super Tuesday and Mitt Romney’s lead growing greater everyday, the time to start thinking about the General Election is here. The race will surely be between Romney and the Democratic incumbent Barack Obama.
Obama is coming off a historic four-year term. He was left with a mess of a war in Iraq, which he kept his word in ending. In other Middle Eastern affairs he has greatly improved relations with Iran, through foreign relations talks in the “Iran Six” conference. He has helped spread democracy with the toppling of Gaddafi and Mubarak. One of the more notable foreign issues Obama has seen in his presidency is the termination of Osama Bin Laden, leader of the notorious terrorist organization al-Qaeda.
Barack Obama has also been on the forefront in improving socially equality in our country. He has pushed for equal rights for homosexuals in ending the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy in the Armed Services. Obama has also pushed equality for all through the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, which expanded hate crimes to include those based on sexual orientation. One of Obama’s first acts of office was the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009, which expanded equal pay for women in the workplace.
The Affordable Health Care Act was one the most landmark bills in Obama’s first term. This bill has received a lot of negative press since it was passed, even though many of the ideas like individual mandate were Republican ideas. The bill provides three key changes in making health care more accessible: it prohibits insurers from refusing insurance based on pre-existing conditions, it prohibits insurers from charging different rates based on medical history or gender, and it requires most employers to provide coverage for their workers. In years to come this bill will known as “Obamacare” with more positive connotations because of its great strides in providing affordable health care to all Americans.
The disaster of the auto industry and the shape of the city of Detroit is an issue that has really hit home with many voters. When Obama took office the auto industry was failing and the city of Detroit was in shambles. President Obama immediately got to work in restoring the once great auto industry of America. Through regulations to require the auto companies to cut cost and change business strategies Obama saved 1.4 millions jobs and prevented an economic catastrophe. General Motors has even regained its status as the largest auto maker in the world.
Through these great triumphs of Barack Obama’s first term he has clearly made a strong case for his reelection. In the coming months on the election circuit it will be clear that Barack Obama is once again the best man for the job.

Prevented economic catastrophe? Really? Our economy is slowly improving because that is the way it works and has nothing to do with him “Being the best man for the job.” The economy was a wreck for the majority of his first 3 years so I’m very unsure how he prevented it.  I’m assuming you are someone that is stuck in their ways and if your parents say Obama is God then you go along with it. As far as Detroit goes this was not something he did. They city and state has been making these strides for years and it is just now finally starting to be apparent. Although I do not think there are any great candidates in this coming election I feel the President of the United States should spend a little more time bringing this country together and less filling out basketball brackets. If someday we look back and Obama is on the status of great presidents such as FDR, Reagan, Lincoln, Washington, and Jefferson then I will retract my prior statements. Finally are you even old enough to vote?

    Dear TBD,
It is poor form to badger and condescend to this young man. It is the resort of someone unable to argue a position in a civil manner. Regardless of your position, you discredit yourself by this conduct. I suggest you pick up copies of “Democracy in America”, “the Economist”, and “The Wall Street Journal” –it is pretty much required reading for poli-sci majors. Also read up an Mankew’s economic publications. He was an economist for the Regan administration. Also…never mind.
